Summary

Good read as usualDavid Wolf is a believable character。 A good cop who is not perfect， not a super hero， just an experienced cop with morals and tenacity with a bit of kickass mixed in。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 This was a fun read， as most of the books in the David Wolf series are。 Wolf is loaned out by Sheriff Patterson to nearby Crow County where a young man， early twenties， is dead from a gunshot wound to the head， pants down around his ankles。 It appears as if the body has been moved in the victim's truck， and the truck has been left in a semi hidden location。 The deceased happens to be the son of the county sheriff， which he visits he's Wolf's participation。 Sheriff Mustaine was a year older than This was a fun read， as most of the books in the David Wolf series are。 Wolf is loaned out by Sheriff Patterson to nearby Crow County where a young man， early twenties， is dead from a gunshot wound to the head， pants down around his ankles。 It appears as if the body has been moved in the victim's truck， and the truck has been left in a semi hidden location。 The deceased happens to be the son of the county sheriff， which he visits he's Wolf's participation。 Sheriff Mustaine was a year older than Wolf in high school， and as rivals， the football teams played each other， with Wolf as quarterback subjected to many defensive hits from Mustaine。 Mustaine went on to play ball in college， but blew out his knee just after being drafted。He returned to Crow County and went into law enforcement while Wolf was in the army。 Plain and simple， Mustaine is a narcissistic bully， abusing his son and co-workers， probably his absent wife too。 The loss of his son seems to tip his behavior into the psychotic。 Rather than excuse himself from the investigation， Mustaine goes on rampage， physically and verbally abusing potential witnesses without observing law enforcement procedure， such as warrants， etc。 It takes a physical confrontation byetween him and Wolf and his subsequent arrest before any progress gets made on the case。 The entire department works to contain Mustaine in normal circumstances， when he's out of his mind with anger and grief its a departmental crisis。Eventually， with bravery from Wolf and the other deputies and under sheriff of Crow County， the case is solved。 Wolf is wounded while rescuing hostages， and a man dies。 Another nearly looses his life。 Despite being hurt， Wolf finally has some positive news in his romantic life。 It'll be interesting to see where the next book in the series takes Wolf。 。。。more

I'm a little disappointedDon't get me wrong - I'm a fan of Carson's David Wolf series。 In a couple of days I find him to be similar to Wayne Stinnett's Jesse McDermitt， and they both appeal to me。 Wolf is law enforcement in a small section of Colorado， while McDermott is doing his business at sea。 Both are former armed service， both around sixty， both have lost spouses， and and of the two， Wolf is a bit more beat up。 He doesn't always come through with flying colors。 But he comes through。Here he I'm a little disappointedDon't get me wrong - I'm a fan of Carson's David Wolf series。 In a couple of days I find him to be similar to Wayne Stinnett's Jesse McDermitt， and they both appeal to me。 Wolf is law enforcement in a small section of Colorado， while McDermott is doing his business at sea。 Both are former armed service， both around sixty， both have lost spouses， and and of the two， Wolf is a bit more beat up。 He doesn't always come through with flying colors。 But he comes through。Here he's asked to intervene in a case in another town because the victim is the son of the sheriff - and the sheriff is an old nemesis from high school football days。 As usual with the Wolf books ， I read it non-stop。My。issues？ As in， why I didn't give it five stars？ The first。was。a。relatively minor but annoy: there were at four instances where Carson's production team let him down。 A couple of sentences with a word or phrase that didn't make sense; the use of "their" instead of "they're"， one other item that slipped through。 That the Kindle format makes it possible to note and submit （which I did） should hopefully allow those things to get corrected 。 Again， they are minor but I'm of the opinion that they should have been caught。 That's supposed to be why you have editors and proofreaders！The other issue is one that carries more weight。 Without giving away the whole thing， the source of why the kid died -not necessarily how - was so obvious to me that I began to wonder what happened to。Wolf that he missed it。 I don't think I'm the only person who tries to figure out the mysteries before the protagonist， but this one was so glaringly obvious that， if I were the editor， I would have had Carson wrote more to justify Wolf's failure to sniff it out。Never the less， I've already pre-ordered the next one in the series。 Here's hoping all those errors are。vanished by the time it comes out。 。。。more
